Advantages of a 70-Volt System:

1. Simplicity in Wiring:

With 70-volt systems, connecting speakers is straightforward. For example, you can use a 70V amplifier with 350 watts to power a setup totaling close to 300 watts, whether its:

• 15 speakers tapped at 20 watts each, or
• 60 speakers tapped at 5 watts each.

The key is ensuring your amplifier provides a little more power than the combined wattage of all speakers.

2. Customizable Power with Taps:

Speakers in a 70-volt system come with selectable “taps” (e.g., 5W, 10W, 20W). These taps control how much power the speaker draws from the amplifier, allowing you to adjust sound levels for different areas:

• Dining room speakers: 5 watts

• Bar area speakers: 20 watts
• Hallway speakers: 5 watts

This flexibility ensures optimal sound coverage tailored to your space.

3. Mix-and-Match Compatibility:

• Combine various types of 70-volt speakers (ceiling, wall-mounted, subwoofers, etc.) seamlessly within the same system.

4. Long Wire Runs Without Signal Loss:

• 70-volt systems excel at maintaining audio quality over long speaker wire runs, making them ideal for larger installations like restaurants, retail spaces, or outdoor areas.

How to Wire a 70-Volt System:

• Speaker Connections: Simply daisy chain each speaker to the next in parallel (positive to positive terminal and negative to negative terminal).
• No Impedance Worries: Unlike 8-ohm systems, theres no need to calculate impedance in 70-volt systems. The amplifier delivers constant power, simplifying the process.

A 70-volt system is a practical, efficient solution for spaces requiring multiple speakers with customizable sound zones. It offers the simplicity, flexibility, and reliability that traditional systems often cannot match.
